Jon Bøhmer is an accomplished inventor, designer and entrepreneur. His core skill is the ability to discover market opportunities and devise practical and cost-effective technologies to solve the problem. His development skills range from software design, user interface development, electronics, optics, materials, mechatronics and manufacturing. His management skills include team building, financing, marketing and branding. He enjoys giving presentations and lectures and networking.
Jon founded his first company, Scala Inc. in 1987, at age 19. Scala created the digital signage industry and is today still the world leader running over 500.000 retail screens worldwide. From solopreneur to offices in 6 countries and over 100 employees, with global headquarters in Philadelphia, USA. During his 8-year tenure as CEO and chief designer Scala won a number of international awards and technology firsts including beating Microsoft and Apple to develop software for the first digital set-top box for Motorola in 1994. Scala is today the oldest independent multimedia company in the world and is used by most major retail brands worldwide.
Founded and led Kyoto Group, developing cost effective thermal energy storage solutions for industrial use. Listed in 2021 at the Oslo Stock Exchange and acquired
by a private equity fund in 2024, 40 employees. After the IPO, Jon Founded Huma Energy in 2023, continuing the work on thermal energy storage but pivoting to higher temperature materials with vastly improved scalability and economics. Working with the ceramics industry to turn brick factories in to battery factories with minimal investments.
In addition to being an expert in both multimedia software and thermal energy, he is a tireless inventor and supporter of life-improvement technologies for developing
countries. He is able to combine his 30-year experience in the most competitive international technology markets with deep knowledge of Africa and its challenges and opportunities. He married his Kenyan wife in 1993 and has three children. He enjoys skiing, safaris and floor hockey, and is a lifelong Manchester United supporter.
