Sigrid Valberg is a seasoned climate policy expert specializing in international carbon markets and cooperative mechanisms under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. With a strong background in program development and bilateral climate cooperation, she plays a pivotal role in advancing Norway’s global climate initiatives.
Currently, Sigrid contributes to the Norwegian Global Emission Reduction (NOGER) Initiative, a government-led program with a budget of NOK 8.2 billion (approximately USD 740 million). This initiative focuses on fostering emission reductions and green transitions in developing countries through Article 6 frameworks. Her work involves designing and implementing results-based climate programs that ensure environmental integrity and sustainable development.
Sigrid's expertise extends to facilitating partnerships with international organizations such as the World Bank and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). These collaborations aim to develop sector-wide and policy-based carbon crediting programs in countries like Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Morocco, and Senegal. Her efforts are instrumental in mobilizing private green investments and enhancing the capacity of host countries to meet their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.
Through her leadership, Sigrid ensures that Norway's climate cooperation projects adhere to strict standards for transparency, human rights, and measurable emission reductions. Her work significantly contributes to Norway's goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2030 and supports the global transition to a low-carbon economy.
